*Does anyone know if the proposed ban even could include overseas purchases btw?

The consensus on the Snuson forums seems to be the overseas sellers will simply become tax collectors for the states, collecting and remitting the taxes to whatever state you happen to live in, for every order you place.

On a very much related note, I MUST share with you all my good news. MY TOBACCO PLANTS ARE SETTING OUT FLOWER BUDS! I might be able to make a wee bit of snus from this year's crop after all! I CAN'T BELIEVE IT!

Heeheeeheee. I won't be paying tobacco taxes to either the Feds or the States much longer!

Cool Alist, I had a little luck myself. Despite all the accidents, dogs, deer and general mishaps I managed to keep 4 plants alive. They're still in the ground because of the unseasonably warm temps we've been experiencing. I won't be rolling in HG tobacco this year but will get a taste of it t least, and one of the plants is a Rustica so I'm happy about that.

Congrats man! I only kept two alive, due to my numerous mishaps. That IS success though. We have gotten our feet wet and are far better prepared for the 2010 season than we were for 2009, because we know more of what we are doing and know just how easy it is.

Yeah but the 2010 growing season is just a few short months away. I am about to jump right out of my skin at the thought of it.

and one of the plants is a Rustica so I'm happy about that.

You know Rustica scares me due to the strength of it. On the other hand, I could see mixing smaller amounts of it into some other tobaccos, blending in a bit of cinnamon oil, and making a milder version of that Oden's cinnamon snus, or whichever brand it was.

Sorry to be away from the topic!
I am becoming convinced that for me, at least, the only way I am going to get any peace in this world is to grow/produce my own! I have made some snuffs lately that have shown me that it is possible, and I have had some home made snus that were quite good! I have no illusion that this will require a great amount of skill and determination, and will be somewhat trying and bittersweet. Snuff is rather easy, although there is a fair amount of alchemy involved, but snus, oh my!

I think that the self made aspect of snus poses the greatest challenge as far as complexity, taste, and not least safety. There is a lot to tackle here! Growing is a big undertaking, but can be done, curing has me concerned, but the still available tobaccos will do in the meantime as far as experimentation. I have some great friends who craft some stunning beers, and I have met forest Gnomes who proffer some interesting and quite refined combustible liquids. The efforts of individuals in the northern California regions are legendary, as far as botanicals.

I think it is high time to take control of my indulgences, only then can I have the last laugh, so to say, when it comes to the ill political winds blowing through our little nicotine world..

That's my main thing in GYO/MYO snus. I wish to get to the point that it will no longer matter what the government does, whether they raise taxes on tobacco or attempt to limit purchases via mail. If I am growing and making my own, whatever nonsense the government next attempts will have no bearing on my life whatsoever.

As far as curing, baccy leaves for snus are air-cured for 90 days. My Turkish cured green, but my Virginia is curing brown.

I will attempt growing next year, and as it stands, I still have 7 pounds of Windsail Platinum and several pounds of other nice tobaccos. I am researching snus methods and recipes.

Have now quit smoking and been using snus for about 1 month now.After trying out 2 different sample packs.I have found a couple faves.I will list those at the bottom.I also have noticed that I do not miss cigarettes at all period.No nic fits no jitters no wanting to go out & shot people in the face with a shotgun.God this stuff is so friggin awesome.Huge nic hit that lasts for 30 minutes with a mini.Lasts an hour or longer with a normal portion.The whites last 2 hours but take 15 minutes to start juicing.Didn't like the feel of loose even when using a primaster.But have since learned that I can just put the loose in press ‘n’ brew" empty tea bags.Which means i can even blend the loose stuff to my satisfaction.Directions for this near bottom.As for the stark/strong portions they last 2 hours and dang near make my eyes cross.But great for waking up with coffee.Have I mentioned that I love this stuff yet?
Makes me wish I had found out about this stuff years ago.I have so many good things to say about this stuff I could wind up writing for hours but I think end here with the directions & a short list of faves I mentioned earlier.Yes in order.

Directions for putting loose snus in press ‘n’ brew" empty tea bags.

#1 Cut the bag where it's natural fold is.This way you get 2 bags from 1.
#2 Seal the sides but not the top of these now.
#3 Fill a bag using a prismaster or icetool.It is just easier this way.
#4 Cut away excess from top of bag leaving just enough to wrap it a bit to keep the snus inside.
#5 Put bag in your mouth with the top up so snus can not fall out & enjoy.
